Dipping in to Poetry
I didn’t expect my first post on poetry to focus on an author I knew nothing of until discovering them, but here we are.
Today is the anniversary of Ella Wheeler Wilcox’s birth; that’s why I learned of her (and her Wiki page shows why I think she’s worth knowing about). The poem that was shared in the short piece I read about her is especially important these days.
The World’s Need
So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.
In the nearly three months that I’ve been absent here, I’ve moved halfway across the continent to a city I had never even considered living in—but needs must. And in doing so, it appears that I’ve found a place where kindness is valued. My hope has been refreshed, which feels very good.
